I did a Finance Manager loop at Amazon recently. Just heard from the recruiter that the loop feedback is out. Unfortunately, I was told that I was down levelled to L5, instead of L6. The position is located in Seattle, but the recruiter said the maximum TC for the role is 120K. This seems like a pretty low TC. I know the job market is crazy, but down levelling and lowballing me at the same time is a very painful place to be. I have 10+ YOE, and should be getting a Manager role. Please advise on a fair range for an SFA (level 5). Or could I still negotiate for a Manager position? I don’t have a job currently, and I am not in US. Thank you. Level 5 SFA - $120K Current TC = 0
Everyone gets downleveled and that comp is inline for L5
Don’t know about everybody but it’s fairly typical. Happened to me, took the job no regrets.
Thanks @stonks4u. Much appreciated. Please is there a stock component to the pay and sign off? Is it a good idea to accept the offer? I will be relocating from Canada to Seattle US, and the recruiter said there is no budget for relocation. Also, in case I stay in Amazon for a while, how long does it take on average to get promoted to L6?
No relocation, really? I remember I had an amazon offer way back at really low pay, but it still included 7k relocation
Thanks. I will try and negotiate with the Hiring Manager. It seems you left Amazon already 😊
3 years if you’re exceptional
Wow! Thanks a lot. The best would be to move as soon as possible for a promotion. 11 YOE for a L5 is pretty low. But with the brutal job market there isn’t enough leverage for job seekers
325k or bust
Unfortunately, Finance doesn’t pay as well as Software engineering.
“and should be getting a Manager role”, entitled generation. How well do you manage yourself?
I have over 10 YOE, with 2 designations and an MBA. I should be getting in at L6. Don’t throw the entitlement banter. But it’s what it is - the market is very bad. A L5 in Finance only requires 3 YOE, L6 requires 5 YOE. Common man!!
@Sanofi, you misinterpreted me there… I meant move out to get promotion at another company, instead of staying at Amazon.
120K is better than nothing, so just take the job. This will also reduce the gap on you resume unless you want to take a career break. Companies have the upper hand now because of the easily available talent. Keep interviewing for better roles even after accepting this offer though.
Thanks brother. I agree with you 100%.
Definitely a down level for amazon finance. But salary is bigger than no salary. Just join and keep looking.
Absolutely. It was a very disappointing outcome, but it’s what it is. Take it and keep looking!
@Amazon guys, please I need your advice. I have to respond to the recruiter tomorrow morning. Thanks a lot
For your reference, I was offered 92k (base) + $40kstock + $21k sign on year 1 and $16k sign on year 2. L5 role in Seattle. 2 years ago.
Thanks for this. I don’t why my recruiter is trying to anchor me on $120K TC. I have to fight for something more reasonable
