I recently got an offer from AMAT for a level 3 senior position. 140k base 10%dbi 20k rsu (5k/year). I have a phd and 3 yr postdoc experiences and 0 semiconductor experience. Background in ME. Currently working at Boeing with base 135k level 3. No grant or bonus. They are removing my remote perk in December and forcing me to move to Seattle, which I hate due to weather. Joined 4 months ago. I love the team, work, and work life balance. So, as coming from academic background and having been working at Boeing I have no idea about DBI RSU etc. Is this a good offer considering the expenses in bay area. Didn't run it through my manager at Boeing yet. Pretty sure they will counter with some work arrangement perk. But don't trust the upper management as they may change their mind again soon. Tbh kind of scared about the economy. Current position is pretty safe as it with the BIDS.
You got a very good offer for PhD+0. (Postdoc doesn’t count). This is still pretty low for Bay Area though.
Tbh i got a similar offer for MS+0 so idk about "good offer"
Yes, bay area part is scary. Will ask for higher base+rsu.
That's about right for E3 @ applied. 135-155k is the range.
Do you think if I ask 160k, they may bail out or counter. Currently rsu is only 5k/year. Which is too low.
You can try, and they may say that's the best we can do, but they won't take back their original offer. You will have a better chance if you show a competing offer.
You need competing offers
Considering the differences in cost of living, salary isn’t much different, especially considering that AMAT will probably work you more. RSUs seem very low. I remember them offering me more when I was a new grad PhD years ago. Is the job market that bad these days?

Is the position at Boeing too? Sorry it isn't too clear to me the situation
No, it's from Applied Materials
I see, so I re-read your post and you are in the bay area? This seems way too low to me but so does your boeing comp. Is this remote?
