Hi Guys, I have joined PwC in US (base - 146k) few months back and I was appearing for msft interviews in India then. Now, Msft is offering L64 with (56LPA base and $50k stocks per year). Msft folks are saying that they will only offer the position in India and I can try to move later in future as I have H1b. I want to move to tech and msft seems like a good offer. Now, My questions are - 1. Should I choose Msft offer and move back to India ?or should I stay in US and try to switch? 2. How hard or easy will be the internal transfer to msft US from msft india? I have H1b approved so I don't have to appear in lottery for next 2 years. Thanks, #tech #msft #pwc
Since you want to be in US, take the Pwc job in US and start looking for other opportunities. Looking for US opportunities from jndia is tough. Also, it will create huge inertia if you go back to india
Where do you want to live and build your life?
This is the right question to ask .
I want to settle in India only but I am ready to stay for few years.
I am going to guess that “getting to US from India” is a harder hurdle than “getting into tech world”. US immigration is a monkey show especially with such a dynamic time with US economy and politics (the orange man vs Brandon). So my suggestion is to get into US first. Once you are in, your current ability to knock into Tech world still applies and you just need to interview some more. The other alternative, get into MSFT India and then make internal transfer to US has too many factors you don’t have control over. Such as a matching team with a US opening, a good manager to support you this change, the MSFT general hiring directions (which team increase foot print in which country), US immigration policies, etc. Too much risk in my opinion.
I disagree. It’s actually a lot easier immigration wise to transfer from out of the country. It also seems like the door is open for OP to do so if they wish based on MSFTs response.
Could be just my personal experience: But I never trust the promises on “future” when / before you join. Reorg happens and policies change.
To me this is a no brainer if you want to be in the US. Move to the US through PwC. If you cracked MS interview in India, you’ll easily crack FAANG interviews in the US. It’s not that tough. Even if you don’t, PwC is not a bad place to be. In fact, it’s probably better than some of the FAANGs if you consider the job holistically and not just TC. Good luck!

Principal Software Engineer TC~300K at Microsoft vs 600K at Meta. Is 300k pretty low for Principal scope?
Wow thats some tough choice , which city in US do you have 146k?
New york
Ok , so generally when folks move from US to India with Big tech they do a divide by 3 of the base . So in your case that comes to ~ 40 lakhs so definitely your Microsoft India salary is higher TC . Also , check with Microsoft employees how easy is it to do a India to US transfer if you already have a H1B.
