Offer evaluation

I am currently a senior program manager(L6) @AMZN. Been here for 5+ years. Now exploring outside. I have an offer from starbucks for Technical PdM (L27). They are matching my comp package from amzn. I am confused i I am being leveled right and the pay. Is this something I should go for?

What's your current comp?

Why take a new position with no increase in comp?

Cisco Changeling Oct 26, 2017

there might be tons of reasons. at some point a person might reach a comp ceiling in its profession and even agree to a decrease in pay if other factors are more valuable (culture, location, product, title etc)

Absolutely. But OP's question is about uncertainty regarding comp. It doesn't sound like he intended to make a tradeoff between comp stagnation and the other reasons for switching jobs.

I'm with some of the others here... Is comp your only concern? Weigh the pros and cons. I, personally, would love a coffee hookup...

I’m L4, and don’t think myself eligible to comment on this, However I would never switch company for less than 20% hike unless the role being offered is higher than current role.

Good advice

You’ll work less. Level 27 is about as high as you’ll go at Starbucks as an IC. If it’s a wash financially then it’s a quality of life question imo

Think bigger- don't get caught up as levels hold social clout at Amazon which creates disfunction. It would behoove you to land at the low end of the range for the level you are being offered at your new gig. This way you won't have to wait for a promo for an increase in pay. Think about it like coming to amazon at the high end of level 6 pay range and having to fight for a promo to a 7 for a pay increase. Good luck with that!
