At ebay, Applied researcher is mainly building production level ML models, ML sys design, etc.
Go for applied research, enter swe few years down the line, make $$$
Have you worked in applied research? If yes how was your experience.
I did not but familiar with someone who took the similar path. Paypal is a better brand than ebay but my guess is applied researcher opens better doors than ds in future. Speak to both teams and check what does the career trajectories look like

@OP What did you decide? Was your offer Applied Researcher 1 or 2? How many years of work ex do you have, what’s your educational background? I just got an offer too so I’m trying to determine if I got low balled!
