Thinking of joining stripe or a startup that was acquired last year. All numbers are in CAD (Canadian). Heard Stripe might go hybrid next year? Currently remote and the team in joining is not in Toronto either. Would be working on a core revenue service that brings in a lot of money but is primarily written in ruby. Stripe said they can wiggle their numbers maybe up to 160k + sign on of 10k ? But not guaranteed. The startup has no equity or sign-on, but is fully remote for a us based company. It's full stack with a modern tech stack. Any insights ? Yoe ~4 #engineering #software #swe #stripe #canada #offer #evaluation
That startup base is pretty amazing for Canada at 4 years of experience! You don’t earn as much even as an E5 at Meta 😃
Really, E5 at Meta don't make at least 220?
Nope! 170-200k CAD is the E5 range.
First of all, f*ck Amazon Take Stripe offer
Is that really L5 at stripe? Can't imagine them offering senior staff at 4 YOE?
I don't feel comfortable recommending Stripe just yet as there is still a lot of talk about potential RIFs/cost-cutting measures.
Startup as it has more base salary GTA rents are through the roof. Higher base will help in bigger mortgage. Can you Dm startup name please?
Stripe’s equity is paper money. Cash portion is less than your current TC (although I do recognize it is not all cash either, but at least Amazon RSUs are real). If you worry about prestige and future potential - stay at Amazon (if this is an option). If you need better comp - go with the startup
@trouty. Stripe's culture is worse than Amazon. Avoid it.
If you’re citizen, then try to get American offer for stripe and move to us when they ask you to. If you’re not, or have circumstances that force you to be here, go for the startup. That base cannot be beat. Save well
