What do you think is wrong with a kid who got rejected by 9 colleges?
I have been interviewing with a company that just raised a 6.5 million dollar Series A round. They want to bring me on as a VP of engineering, right below the CTO. The company only has 13 employees. What kind of cash and equity (as a percentage of the company) might I expect from this company? Any tips to negotiate higher equity. I have a lot of faith in this company’s growth. TC: 300K YOE: 5 DS: 7
Wait for the offer then come back and ask. Right now would be all speculation.
Assuming they have 10% equity pool for workhorses, maybe .1% would be a fair ask. What do I know? I wasn’t in your position
VP position in 5 years of experience.. Wow! 😲
That’s a good leading indicator for recession
Good indicator for the quality of the startup.

1-1.5% as a starting point
I'd say shoot for 1% equity or more, a bit less for a celebrity founder or if the company has fairly strong cash flow. More if things don't look so stable. This really depends on how you feel about the company and whether its going to need a lot of funding (read: dilution). Cash goes the opposite way, if you're getting good equity and the company is tight on cash, don't expect much more than low 100s.
Currently no cash flow. Though they claim the product is supposed to launch in 3 months. It’s a copycat company. So looking at the companies they are copying they go to Series D-F. Thanks for the info. This aligns what a friend of mine who as exited said.
Red flag that theres so many levels for so few employees (cto and vp for 13 people)
It’s a tech heavy startup. The employees are all programmers. The main problem is geography. The CTO and 7 devs are in one part of the world, the VP position is for the programmers in another part of the world. So I’d move and be the tech lead in that part.
People like titles. Nothing unusual. Titles are worth nothing to the equity holders. This itself wouldn’t be a red flag to me.
What is DS?
It's measured in centimeters
