I have offer from Intel to work on their 5G products. I am currently in QUALCOMM . Is it a good move to switch ? Also to move to Bay Area from San Diego?
Cause they are going down with lot of layoffs
What is the package they are offering?
Have not got package yet .. the 5G group seems to be in limelight in Intel and that's what is motivating me to move if package is good . Also in San Diego , except for Qualcomm there isn't any other company .
Good luck with that. You will miss San Diego.
Bay area from SD ..... if secure at Q I wouldn't move from SD ... quality of life will degrade almost assured
I second vote on 420's comments.
No! I left Intel last year and so happy to have left. The raises and stock are minimal. Culture needs work. They announced layoffs and made people wait a week to find out if they were hacked. (No I was not laid off.) never seen such a bad culture in along time. Worked at a few companies and Intel was the worst. BadManagers too. All the smart people put a tear in and left.
Don't go to Intel. I've been in some toxic workplaces before but Intel was the worst. The only thing I could say that was good about Intel is that my coworkers were nice to me once I left. They are going through massive layoffs and are trimming the fat big-time. Lots of dead weight that's accumulated over the years. If you aren't tight with people who have been working there long enough to have a sabbatical or two under their belts and you have above average emo IQ, I'd avoid it all all costs. Qualcomm is a great company with great people. Stay there or go elsewhere, but please--avoid going to the place my 10 year old son used to say was like going "Into Hell".
I would normally say no, but Intel has good potential with 5g. Intel culture is slow and comfortable types.
Thanks for all the comments ! To add more on the position , its driver development in NGS group .
Intel is leading in 5g. You might learn a lot technically but Bay Area is expensive
I've been here about 9 years and I don't really echo everyone's opinions here. Intel has been good to me. I'm a big proponent of work life balance leaning more towards life. It's been easy going for the most part. There are crunch times, but for the most part I come and go as I please as long as I meet my responsibilities. The money may not be as good, I haven't really bothered to confirm fur myself... But it's good enough and I can leave work behind easily for my family.
Depends on the team. I seriously doubt that engineers on the 5G team have work life balance- they are paid much more than intel average and are expected to make work their Number 1 Priority in life (Just like Amazon or Apple).
