Laid off this February and I have been applying & interviewing. Finally finished interviews with Amazon and got an offer. Was given a week to make a decision as I was still finishing interviews for couple other companys. I still have time till the deadline but was updated by the Salary negotiator today that the position has been filled (offer accepted by another candidate). Is this normal? I mean, the same offer being presented to multiple candidates and its basically First Come First Serve? I am shocked to be honest. Anybody has experience with this and insights into what this means? Will my offer be rescinded?
If you are laid off, just accept the first offer and keep looking. Take control of things. You might get blocked by a company n that’s ok.
sure. Thanks. Learning this the hard way I guess. Hard to swallow that an offer would be first come first serve and especially at a company like Amazon where the Values and Principles are highly talked about.
Sorry for your situation. May be it was not meant to be at Amazon. Don’t lose hope. Keep grinding n GL!
What type of role and level was it?
Snr. BIE (L6)

Market is bad. My guess is it will go much worse. Accept the first offer.
Why much worse?
Definitely keep pestering the recruiter. Do you have access to the hiring manager any more?
Unfortunately No. Recruiter and Salary Negotiator are the only direct contacts.
Was negotiation in progress on top of the offer given or were you just waiting to decide on it untill deadline ?
I would think the negotiations to be done. Was just waiting till the deadline due to other ongoing interviews so that I can make an informed decision
which Amazon Location?
Seattle, WA
You need to be able to accept or deny the offer right away.
These days companies will give offers to multiple candidates and rescind the offers after the first one accepted, they do this to avoid negotiating salary and get the cheapest one onboard because the quality of candidates are so good now there are many quailified ones they can pick
That is such a horrible practice if true but we live in a torrid time where the Employer holds all the power.
Finally OP is freed of their naivete
This is unusual. I'm not sure what the policy is now, but a few years back you would be offer ready and they would try to match you with another team
Thanks. Havent heard from the recruiter yet but the negotiator informed that I will be an Incline for the next 6 Months since I finished all the interviews. Nothing concrete about matching with other teams yet
