I got two offers this morning. One was higher by 20k so I figured I'd ask the lower paying one if they have any wiggle room in the budget. So I reiterated my interest asked them if they're willing to match the competing offer or get close to it and they immediatly rescinded their offer. Is this a normal experience? Sounds toxic to me and I'm happy to take the higher offer but wanted to share and curious if this a normal scenario that happens in the industry. To people asking for name: its a small (<100) company in Canada so I dont want to dox myself
Indications of a supply-demand shift in favor of employers
The guy has two offers I don't think he's upset about it. Also, dodged a bullet .
Didn’t say he is. Just noting the underlying employer behavior shift signal.
Good riddance! You saved yourself a toxic workplace my friend
Thank you my friend 🙏💪
That's not normal
Not a normal experience at all, you dodged a billet
What did he dodge?
@wlbdude - he dodged a company who didn’t value him and acted like they were doing him a favor by extending an offer. I worked for a company like that before and it was toxic af.
In my previous experience the companies would tell me hey New this the most we're willing to offer you. Not rescind with a auto reject message lol
Then why to come up with an offer at first place then?
Toxic. Alot of employers are taking out their resentment from the past few years because they have other options. Be careful with one offer only
They just started hiring SWEs last year though so dont think thats the case. And yea I'm actively interviewing for more offers
Normal in this market, candidates no longer have leverage, unless you are super special that they cannot find anyone like you in this big pool.
I would've laughed and hung up the phone before they could finish their sentence but they probably kept another candidate on reserve in the event you didn't accept the offer which company was it (if u can't name the company then it didn't happen)
On the phone the recruiter said she'll ask the team and get back to me. ~30 min later i get the standard rescinded offer email
Dont want to name bc theyre really small (~<100) so I would dox myself if i did
I would name and shame the company, OP. Rescinding offers for negotiating is a bad look even in an employer’s market, and a lot of people here would like to know so that we can either avoid them or be wary of what they offered TC wise. Also include your YOE as well, please. TC: $44/hr
+1 for name and shame
Bullet dodged.
