Crossed a line with my boss
I’ve got an offer from Illumina currently for a Staff Product Designer coming in at $160k + 10-15% bonus + 60k RSUs (4 years). I was prepared to negotiate the salary to $180k and a sign on bonus as well, but the RSUs are just way below what I was expecting when looking at levels.fyi If I go back to them and say I’m looking for more along the lines of $300k in D RSUs I’m thinking they’re going to laugh and pull my offer. Is this even worth while to attempt such a feat or am I comparing apples to oranges here with Illumina vs levels.fyi data?#
I don't see Designer salaries for Illumina on levels.fyi, did you?
No, I’m just looking at what other people at staff levels are getting and comparing
you mean at other companies? that would be irrelevant for illumina in particular. this is why you always LEAD with your expectations. instead of wasting time interviewing for a lowball
Is this a software/hardware related role?
Product design
Software
Got nothing to lose if they drop offer, let ur balls drop and negotiate
We’ll just got laid off so need work… but ya.
did you only look at the single number or did you click down into the history? i’m also confused if you mean $60k or 60k
Drilled down. $60k
and the median across a set of companies is $300k? pass. they will never come up to that. don’t look at as being hopeful they won’t rescind. look at it as a garbage offer
Not all companies pay like FAANG and going back with a request for 5x RSUs will not end well imo. Better to find a job elsewhere.
+1 on this. I can understand if you want to push to 100k and let them counter but 5x RSU will likely create a poor post offer experience and have your offer rescinded instead. You cannot trust everything you see on the internet.
How much do you trust anonymous reporting on the internet? How much do you value yourself at? How much do you trust anonymous message boards?
Levels.fyi is supposedly pretty damn near accurate.
I agree. I have found it pretty accurate too. So how much do you value yourself at?
