A friend of mine did very well on his online assessment and got an offer without a final round. Is this still a thing at Amazon? He was a new grad. He said they only asked him to go over the solutions from the OA and he got an offer. TC: 180k
Now I feel bad for having 4 on-site round. New grad 2022 here. Edit - prev had 1 OA (1.5/2Q solved) and 1 phone screen (passed)
Be happy that you will be less probable to be a pip fodder since the team completely knows you and you get to know the team.
Good counterpoint. Didn’t know about that. Thanks!
I'm not sure how skipping onsites fits in with "new hires always raise the bar".
I mean isn’t the ‘new hires always raise bar’ lip service
SDE4 newgrad? SDE5? What are you talking about?
Very common for SDE new grad roles
Does Apple do this?
Nope
Did your friend have to go through the waitlist?
No. The process was quick.
What date did he receive his offer? A lot of ppl were waitlisted on the 5/25 and 5/31. (USA)
Is 180k the new grad offer ?
Yeah
Depends on cost of living. I think SF is $180k
Yup, this happened to me. It’s only for New Grad positions through student programs. Passed all test for coding OA’s and must have scored well on the work simulation/LP test. Final round was a 20-30 min call reviewing the coding OA’s I had already done and discussing the thought process (basically checking if I cheated) and then I received an offer later in the week. I was doing the 4/5 round onsites at other companies and it felt a bit crazy but I was happy 🙃
How long did it take you to complete the OA? Do people really do poorly on the simulation test? 😂😂
Believe it or not, yes somehow people do actually fail that simulation test. But those results are sometimes ignored if they aced the coding part
Happened to me 5 years ago when I was applying for new grad roles, I was similarly confused but it seems to have worked out
Oh wow so it’s always been a thing ?
Yeah I guess so. Seems to be pretty rare because this thread is the first time I'm hearing of it happening to someone else. All the college friends I've talked to who ended up at Amazon went through the normal onsite process
Got new grads yes Amazon will do this. PIP fooder has to join somehow.
I don't think it's for PIP fodder.
Happened to me as well, I believe it’s only for target schools but who knows
You are from a top school ?
Yes amazon does this for new grads
And only new grads who ace the OA.
I guess OA can be cheated and most new grads take help in OA
