I had been reached out by OfferUP hiring manager regarding a DE position. Wanted to know more about the work culture and job security. Feel free to DM if someone wants to share personal experience. YOE - 10 existing Comp - 230k
The data team is more than impressive and have some of the best management available in the company, in my opinion. They’re all amazing, intelligent people. You would be privileged to work on that team. That said, it’s an extremely busy time at OfferUp, a LOT is changing (not in a bad way, but a lot very fast) and burnout is real. We recently acquired Letgo, our biggest competitor which is clearing sight lines to complete domination in the marketplace space. The future of OfferUp is very bright. Culture is in a weird point at the moment given the prevalence of burnout and being remote, but they’re trying to figure it out. They’re sending mailers with employee merch, lotto tickets for national lottery day, company free lunch via Uber Eats and trivia games, more. It’s all over the place but I appreciate that they are trying. Highly recommend getting in if you can. Business is going very well, we’ve hired over 100 people since beginning of the year, and are running out of open jobs for the first time ever. Message me if you have any questions about specifics.
What is OfferUp doing to handle fraud? There's way too much fraud in the product.
What’s DoorDash doing to handle fraud? What about Craigslist, eBay, Facebook Marketplace, etc. any marketplace that exists, even DoorDash my friend (my SO’s account was taken over by someone in another state and used fraudulently). We have multiple teams in place playing this continually changing game against fraudsters. How about you share your company secrets and I’ll share mine?
Come for the work and the culture, not for the comp $$.
Offer Up as a product is infested with fraudsters. The product in itself is a failure. That should speak volumes to whether you should even consider interviewing there.
