1 vs 5 Million - no lifestyle change
I got offer from VMware last week, I accepted the offer verbally, background check and other things were started already but I didn't accept it yet in the recruitment portal. Meanwhile I received offer from F5 Networks. I'm not really good at negotiations,How should I negotiate ? (may be I shall try for better overall package at F5 or better bonus at VMware) VMware TC: Position MTS-2(cloud based) Base $140,000 Bonus % 12% RSU $40,000 / 4 yrs Sign-on $10,000 Relocation $0 Location PaloAlto, CA F5 Networks TC: Position SDE II (Full stack based) Base $116,000 Bonus % 10% RSU $28,000 / 4 yrs Sign-on $5,000 Relocation $0 Location Seattle YOE: 2 years(outside US) + Internship in FAANG. I'm a recent graduate so apart from TC, I'm looking to join the role which makes me a better software engineer, so that I can get closer to work for my dream company someday. UPDATE: Thank you so much guys for your inputs. I first talked to vmware that I got another competitive offer and they quickly came back with a 10k raise on base (150k now) and confirmed them I will sign. F5 came back to me with base 120k and said they can't do more than that, I declined it afterwards. #vmware #f5networks #tc #negotiate #compensation #pay #swe #software #engineering
I’ve worked for both companies. Take the vmware offer.
@SNsd39, how is ServiceNow compared to VMware and F5?
Which team at F5?
its FSD II in cloud position, not sure about the team
FSD?
Go to VMware, it's a way better company and offer is great compared to F5.
@Ananmadheya, I am not defending F5 but based on what reasons do you say VMware is a better company?
Depends on the team. Which team / product at F5? Also, if you are relocating, did you factor in the living expense between the 2 locations? You can ask for at least 6000 - 10000 more in base at F5.
Def VMWare. I doubt you could get much more as a SEII here. That’s probably around a 1.0 in their pay band which goes from 0.8-1.2. Any more than this and they’ll want to bump you up to an SEIII. I wouldn’t come here if I were you...
California has state tax and (correct me if I'm wrong) I think higher cost of living. Something to consider
I have worked at both companies. Please take VMware.
Well maybe not VMWare lol although I’m sure layoffs are coming for F5 too
How long did it take to get an offer from F5 after your interviews?
2-3 weeks is normal
Use the VMware offer to negotiate with f5 networks and then decide which one you liked better. Not sure it is good to negotiate with VMware after accepting the offer - Think what the hiring manger is going to think if you accept any revised offer abd join VMware..
