Hi, looking for some clarification on Amazon’s official rehire policy. Here’s my situation — I was in the Amazon Alexa org for exactly 1 year in 2016 as an L7. The day I joined there was a massive reorg and I lost my management chain. In that 1 year, i had 3 managers and the political climate in the team was toxic. I later learned that my job was already promised to someone from the new leadership tribe and thats when the harassment started - they used “lack of specificity” in documents as a reason to PIP me. That was the 1st year for the pivot program and I chose the resign option with the understanding that i will be eligible for rehire. Its been 3.5 years since, ive had a great run at a startup, and I’ve now learned that i have a no rehire tag. Basically, and not surprisingly, HR/HM lied through their teeth. I now have a HM that is willing to bat for me and i wanted to see what the official policy is on reversing this. IMHO - Alexa was/is the worst of Amazon and I’d like to give it another go! TIA.
You like taking risks! Don't you?
...just trying to evaluate my options...
Maybe you need Jeff Bezos override on that no-rehire mark?
Can you put in a word? ;)
For now, I’m just trying to understand the policy...
I am in a similar situation but I was in Level-6 when I left Amazon. Would you be able to post an update? Please DM me so we can be in touch.
Anything is possible if the org wants you..any rule can be slashed in the name of exception..
True.
Thanks
No Alexa again. Been there, worst org place imo
Agree!! That place is radioactive, worse than Chernobyl :)
But why is it so successful though?
Anyone have more details on the policy. Please share...
First story I read of an L7 being pip
I think you'll hav to get an overide from VP+ to overlook the nohire. AMZN is known to do this and it doesn't matter what level you were. Have seen several L7 pushed out like this. Also saw a few L8 Directors gone. I am sure it might happen in L10 also given so many have jumped ships.
These are not natural laws of physics. These are man-made laws made by men of level L can be broken by men of level L+1. Good luck, but I think you're taking unnecessary risk again.
Why would you be so attached to working at Amazon when they have such a bad rep?
Very good point that I continue to ask myself. However, honestly, I liked the work approach and I think I can be successful if my manager has my back. The new oppty is just that...
