Offshoring in big Investment banking

Can big IB like Jpmc, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley offshore their entire Technology department and move all of their swe jobs overseas to cheaper places like India? Even though they already established major dev centers in India, they still have some job postings looking for people in the U.S. Those firms are already used to working with offshore swe, why not just exclusively hire people there to cut down on cost. Is it because of some regulations to protect customers data?#software #tech #swe

It is because of 24/7 on-call. The US and India time zone are opposite, US cover the day shift and India covers the night shift.

Will hiring in latin America help with the issue? And still much cheaper

They do hire in LatAm.

There are some regulations

Can you elaborate?

Lol

GS is doing that by expanding more in Hyderabad and Dallas/SLC. Primarily backfills only in NYC/NJ or LDN.

ViaSat mixigaming Jan 28

Why do they need to expand in Dallas instead of just Hyderabad? India is still much cheaper than any state in the US

Goldman Sachs hutdnlkr Jan 28

One reason being 24 hours coverage for support/issues and coverage on India public holidays
