I come from SAP and we did not have on call schedules in our daily routine. The support was handled on contract basis by 3rd parties. But in Amazon and Flipkart, the on call schedules is something which I don't like. So, I wanted to understand if this is in every product company out there or just ecommerce? I am thinking of switching and would like to keep this point in mind.

This is everywhere (G, F, A, A, N etc etc). It's a simple philosophy: You build, you maintain.
Go back to sap and rest. Oncall sucks everywhere.
Oncall is present in most companies and teams. However the workload during oncall depends on the the kind of system that you are working with. Customer facing teams will be very hectic, while systems that are more isolated from the customer will have comparably less on call work
