I understand from the rules that one can’t do online business in H1B. But I still see people starting their blog or YouTube channel. I am not sure if they do monetize it. It’s still a mystery to me. I assume they started it as hobby and somehow clicked and probably found a way to get around the H1B visa rules. Like linking their YouTube channel monetized income to their home country. So do you also have similar experience or know anyone who has done this ? Share your tips! #workvisa #h1b #businessintelligence
What ever people say it is illegal to monetize and not worth it.
if you earn income in other countries *while physically residing in other countries*, but you file a US tax return, you still need to account for that income on the US return. what you're suggesting is tax evasion even without the immigration issue.
Agree. My concern is more on immigration than tax.
How about taking income in someone else's account in home country and have them pay tax in their country?
Could potentially do to avoid tax but what does it mean to the visa ? How actively does one involve in that YouTube channel or blogging would violate the immigration laws right ? I have been hearing mixed things on this. Hope someone who has gone through this journey can share it
I asked this question to attorney. He said that these laws were written when online earning was not a thing and so mostly outdated. He said that if payment is taken in someone else's name in home country and they pay the tax, technically you are not even earning. N that should "probably" work. Or if you take the payment in name of person who is the US citizen. N they pay taxes in the US.
Don’t do it. It’s not worth it.
Why?
It’s illegal?
