Asians - what are your thoughts on asian female white male ?
I am from a non-CS background (PhD in geophysics). Leetcoded my way into apple and was able to grow to senior SWE. If I wanted to grow beyond this level in the tech track, say to ICT5, would a background in CS be helpful? One option I was considering was the UIUC online masters in CS. Heard great things about it but just a bit hesitant since it’s a big time commitment and apple death march is taking a toll already. But I am willing to put in the effort if that means it will help in the long run for career growth. Yoe: 4 at apple after PhD TC: 350k
You don’t need any degree. Just do targeted education if you must.
Gotcha. How do I figure out which courses I take for long run success? My current job is not heavy on CS concepts (it’s a mix of generic SWE and data science) so it’s not very obvious to me what areas to target.
I would say, don’t care about credentials or units. Just look at content. E.g. I found caltech’s devops certificate very close to what I do. But it’s basic for my experience so I didn’t pursue it. See, I didn’t get impressed by caltech’s tag and just calculated what I’ll learn from jt.
If the apple death march is hard just switch to a company that has a lesser pace. Even at less pay at least they pay you , unlike grad school which you'll be paying for and will likely learn less than just working
I don't think any masters will help you (anyone) grow level. Seniority is about experience and scope, just increase your scope to a wider audience, impact more people in a good way. That'll get you to the next level regardless of your "background"
Don’t do. Keep taking complex projects instead
lmao no 😂
No bro
Once you’re in the industry, your degrees don’t matter. Having 3-4 degrees are as good as having just one.
Completely useless at this point
I think if you want to use education to impress others at apple, you’ll have to get a phd in cs. Columbia has a remote cs masters into semi remote cs doctorate. But you have to get the masters from Columbia
Dont bother
