Microsoft announces unlimited PTO - or strictly speaking "discretionary" time off. And the number one reaction here is panic and complaints. What's wrong with you? Aaaaaa I can't accrue and cash out anymore. Yeah it's time off. You're supposed to take time off. Mind-blown...
Unlimited PTOs are a scam. Naive of you think otherwise.
Team dependent. But would like at least a guideline minimum.
You’re bitter and disillusioned if you don’t think unlimited PTO is the dream 😂 I feel sorry for you.
I wonder if Microsoft is hiring now... I looked a few months ago and didn't see much (though I'm biased for remote or at the least hybrid).
I think you are missing the point that many people barely use PTO without hurting their performance, so at least they were getting paid. Now they won’t.
This is the answer . Tech companies know that on the whole people will take less than they are entitled to. Unlimited PTO is as big a scam as tipping at restaurants
Good luck taking as much as you were guaranteed before.
Only in USA such a dumb concept exists too.
Someone clearly doesn’t understand why DTO is a scam. Maybe in a few years you’ll understand, it seems to be a “don’t know enough yet” thing so don’t worry, you’ll get there
Because there’s people willing to not take time off and advance their careers, even though they might burn out in several years, someone else will take their place. And this moves the goal post for everyone.
MSFT wouldn’t do this unless they thought it would result in less PTO taken and lower cost related to PTO. It will also probably result in less coasting in a round about way. RIP.
Op, many studies have been done on this. Employees, in unlimited PTO take fewer holidays than limited ones. Unlimited PTO only helps the company save on taxes.
