So I got an onsite at a FAANG company. The position is based in United States but I cant get a work visa to join them if I do clear the interview. Should I fly out anyway or let them know? I love the position and would love to work for them remotely if they put me in an overseas office(Canada) where im eligible, but they probably wont agree. Got the interview thru recruiter reaching out so they dont know my citizenship. Wanted to do the interview cause free flight and hotel and wanted to experience what a 7 hour interview is like. But more importantly I wanted to use the offer to negotiate for other competing offers I may get. Kinda feel bad about using these privileges even tho i cant actually work for them.
We usually kick off the immigration process in parallel to TC on-site. If you are ineligible for a work visa expect them to find out and not go through with an on-site. If the offer is for Bay Area or Seattle, you probably won't be able to use it to negotiate a better pay in Canada. The cost of living is irrational here and recruiters know it.

“Are you eligible to work” is a standard question on the application at every FAANG. How did that get missed?
I got reached out that’s why they don’t know
Even so, they usually ask you to fill out an application before proceeding with the interviews. This question is definitely on that application they ask you to fill out.
