OpenAI wants a 90B valuation. Joining now you’d have to believe in a future where that number is not only stable but also going to go up. That seems unlikely. Bard is the competitor everyone mentions but no one seems to use. Also your equity is in Google which isn’t bad but you’re not going to see anything like 3x multiples. Companies like Anthropic seem to be in a weird spot where they appear to not want to be a business tool so I’m not sure what their monetization strategy is. I’m usually a believer in choosing the Lyft over the Uber. Uber will take all the legal scrutiny and negative press and Lyft can basically fly under the radar a few paces behind and outcomes for employees can be fantastic. Is there a player in the space that fits this criteria? Who is the up and comer right after OpenAI in the startup space? It seems to be moving fast with new players joining every day and a really exciting sector to work in for everyone. #openai #bard #anthropic #equity #startup

Lol so basically another cash funnel for OpenAI and chain shackled to their proprietary tech
They have valid business usecases. Others have the tech.
nobody. They are generic solutions and open source is better. Just compare pytorch and the state of your internal ML wrapper library that doesn't support half the stuff cause it doesn't develop as fast as the open source
Open source will “win”. And then companies will eventually get it and start building their own custom AI ideas that are internally relevant to how they run, so even between competitions two different approaches to a model depending on their data and structure, etc. Centralized will not win with AI.
That kind of makes sense. Like how every company thinks they need a custom internal tools dashboard when really none of them do
Exactly. AI will be a natural extension to what SWE do. The companies rn are trying to moat it and sell it before everyone catches on.
We all love it when an underdog makes a come back. But, in reality Lyft is bankrupt. Uber is making money. Same thing will happen. Anthropic is going to branch to enterprises - like Box vs Dropbox. Or, it will get acquired for IP and talent.
Ones offering solutions to enterprise will win I feel.
Always hahah
What if it's all a fad and ppl find no use for bullshit box on the long run
Lyft vs Uber is a terrible example to make your point.
Lyft IPOd at 78
+1 that open source will win. Maximum data security that way. For now OpenAI is way ahead of the competition
Why do you thing open source will win? LLMs are expensive to run, which naturally leads to centralization. And the largest “open” LLMs available today (Llama 2 70B, Falcon 180B, MPT 30B) feel very dumb compared to ChatGPT, Bard, or Claude.
The gap between private and public models will be bigger, not smaller. The open source models would be like linux - cute and elegant. But mainstream will be dominated by private models which are easy to deploy, with proper support, and the most advanced and tailored features for enterprise customers. This is a race between OpenAI and Google. If you vote for open source, you might not have experience running enterprise businesses.
The only people pushing enterprise are the ones making money from enterprise. Open source will win, and then providers of compute will win by enabling companies to build models on top of their infra. If you think “enterprise” fits AI then you obviously have no experience deploying or running anything. And you pedestal vendor platforms way too much and hold way to much esteem for OpenAI and Google. Go buy the next iPhone every year while your at it too.
always stop when the other party in discussion starts to attack you personally. Good luck with life.
I wish I am at Uber
The grass is always greener my friend
