Asians - what are your thoughts on asian female white male ?
Working through an Opendoor interview process right now for a Sr SWE position. Wondering if it’s worth it or not currently to complete the processing. Looking for folks at Opendoor to talk about the WLB / Benefits / Pay etc. Currently feeling the team I am interviewing with is Overworked so some red flags are popping up. TC -200 YOE 7 #engineering #offer
Really dependent on team, but overall eng WLB is "average" to "not great" imo. We're a bit understaffed on eng side (similar to most companies atm I believe) but everyone across EPD is super impressive and the bar is very high overall. TC for senior should be ~350K-450K with a roughly 50/50 cash/rsu split for HCOL (not including refreshers which are ~25% of initial grant if you meet expectations). First year can be more if you interview well, have competing offers, and negotiate a sign on but expect to come in that range for HCOL. Benefits pretty standard... No 401K match I would say is biggest downside. We just introduced ESPP at 15% discount+6 month lookback, then all the standard stuff like health insurance, ad&d etc
How big is engg org and how is the comany growth? Good to hear about the refreshers. Separate question. Are you bullish about the company and its model?
If it’s WLB and comp, then it’s an ok place. But if you want to work on interesting problems and want to improve on your engineering skills, this is not the place
Elaborate?
Culture is that looking good is more important than doing good. In fact, you don't have to do much BUT associate yourself with the right set of people. Complain a lot and propose a lot of solutions. Appear to care. Remember, you don't have to execute on it but give an impression that you care. This will work because engineering leadership does not have the ability to dissect what's going on. TBH, they don't even want to because they are playing the same game. Be on the good side of some long-time engineers (they have figured out how to make the system work for them). this will get you promo, comp, and other benefits. But a few years down the line, you might be wondering what you learned.
WLB - average to bad Engineering - like a scrappy series A startup Comp - average
What is the comp for a senior or staff engineer?
Senior 350-450, staff 450-550
450 is HCOL? Also is Seattle considered as HCOL?
What are the red flags you noticed?
