Hypothetically, which new grad SWE offer would you take out of: Optiver (Chi), Nuro (SF), Stripe, and Palantir (NY)? Factors to consider: - Growth - Learning opportunities - Equity/bonus appreciation over time - TC (I'd be willing to take a lower FY TC if it means setting me up for later) - Want to work on a somewhat interesting product/or at least work on generally interesting problems - Don't have name brand (FAANG/Big N) experience Factors that aren't as important: - WLB - Location I have an offer from Optiver and Palantir right now, and Im in the final rounds for Nuro and Stripe. Assuming I get offers from all of them, I would lean more towards Stripe > Nuro >= Optiver > Palantir. Stripe isn't on the poll since I'm least confident I can get an offer from them. TLDR; Optiver - 300 TC (150 base, 100 bonus, 50 sign) Palantir - 220 TC (135 base, 220/4 stock, 30 sign) Nuro - 251 TC (146 base (+17 bonus), 230/4 stock, 30 sign) Stripe - ~270 TC (TBD) #stripe #optiver #nuro #palantir
Palantir would be a terrible decision in this list.
Yea, not sure why so many people are voting for it - for sure thought optiver and nuro would beat it handily.
Why pltr bad? Not sarcasm, genuinely curious as to reasoning. Am a current intern with return offer (London) and not sure where else to apply besides trading places here.
how on earth New grad can receive so much, while in EU 10 YoE earn 150k
Where’d you decide on OP?
Hey OP, I am in the optiver loop for interview and would be extremely grateful if you can guide me through your experience. Can I pls dm?
I’ve had to make a similar decision between large unicorns (Airbnb, Stripe), quant firms (Citadel, Two Sigma, HRT), and Nuro. Palantir sounded way less interesting to me after getting an internship offer during college and learning about their work lol. I would optimize for learning and growth. Nuro has a good combination of both given the hard unsolved technical challenges we face and the upside for growth given how small the team is relative to other AV companies. In general, I would try to be in a place where the core competency is technology. Feel free to DM me if you have questions.
Why would I choose Nuro if I have an offer from Waymo?
Candidates we see from Waymo come to Nuro usually because they want to take a lot more responsibility (Waymo is 5-10x larger). We are also solving a different problem with an easier road to commercialization.
