Oracle Interview - Bartender

I just had an interview loop earlier today for an IC4 TPM role at Oracle Health. They have ‘Bartenders’ in their loops …similar to Bar Raisers at Amazon The role is remote. This “bartender” starts talking about how Remote roles can you hold you back in your career, because you can’t schmooze with your leaders and you can’t network with the right people. Is it normal for interviewers to talk to candidate like this? Was it a subtle way of suggesting a toxic culture for remote employees. Also, why is this person even a bartender, if they can’t uphold the company’s culture? While the entire on-site loop was amazing, the bartender was an absolute let down. They were also 10 mins late to the interview, and totally un-prepared. People at Oracle, what are your thoughts? What is the purpose of the bartender?

I’m totally confused about how there is a bartender in the midst of this all. You need to rewrite this post more clearly

Ex AWS BR here & current OCI - the standard is way different. In OCI interviewing maturity/standards varies from team to team, they are working hard to get some consistency. Don't take it as an insight into team culture, see OCI as all of the good Amazon stuff without any of the unwanted crap.

Not sure about others but in my org they have clearly said no “M” roles for remote workers. They will make you work 24/7 like as you are on WFH you should be available all the time. Oracle is becoming very toxic, it used to be good. Now it’s all toxic work culture without promos or hikes. I would not recommend anyone joining unless you know someone in the project and they can tell you in detail about manager and skips.

Yes. One of the interviewers did mention they occasionally work weekends to keep up with tasks. I’m not big on WLB, but I do not need a repeat of the toxic Amazon cultures. 3/5 people in the loop (including skip level) were ex-Amazon. Im still shocked by the Bartenders open admission about remote workers being excluded from opportunities.

I’ve been around long enough to recall when we could not have office space because the cost center gets billed for it. We were encouraged to work from home when not on the road. I’ve done alright for myself. I do have people on my team that I’ve never met. It does not bother me that I don’t see them in a cubicle every day.
