Was recently contacted by a recruiter who thought I'd be a great fit as a TPM in OCI. I've been seeing mixed reviews about OCI Seattle...everything from they're a great startup atmosphere to stay away as much as possible due to layoffs that happen way too frequently. No trolls and all jokes aside, what is it like really for those of you who work in OCI in Seattle? I know every team is different but overall what is your outlook of OCI? Do they even have a future?
Didn’t OCI announce they are adding 2000 ppl?
That's what the recruiter told me as well. Apparently OCI is growing a ton. Scaled to 7k+ employees as of now.
Yea, upper execs take sadistic pleasure in massive layoffs.
Why would you move from google to OCI? Even though GCP is lame, but company wise google is a better brand
I agree. Long story short, I love Google as a company. I decided to downgrade to a non-technical role that I wasn't 100% happy with because I thought "Google as a company" would still be worth it. I've been finding myself not happy as the work that I do isn't too valuable to me personally.
That’s part of why i left. I realized only owning a very small portion of a very boring product (hint: they’re all boring. Email, maps, chat, all lame products) wasn’t very fulfilling. While current products might not be infinitely better. A larger ownership and scope of responsibility is rewarding.
I left OCI because although the projects were interesting , the culture was very toxic. People don’t treat you well and because the exec leadership doesn’t care, no one feels accountable to care about their team or employees. In general the exec vision on how the product should evolve is weak. Leads to multiple reorgs, hiring and firing because they are trying to make aspects of the business stick
Don Johnson and Clay have a set of principles that all employees must adhere to similar to Amazon. People that do not want that focused culture would not be a good match.
Mixed reviews? I haven't seen anything but negative about OCI.
Ok, for every 5 negative reviews I've seen 1. I have some old colleagues who've been working there for 3+ years so they can't be all that bad could they? Otherwise, all of my colleagues would've left.
