Is it normal for Oracle OCI swe ic3 level to not have system design round in the onsite? yoe: 4
Depends on team.
I didn't
If you are from MSFT or AMZN, you are privileged, interview will be super easy!
I hope this is true haha. I have my final interview for an IC-3 position in a couple weeks and would love some easy questions lol
The real answer is that it depends how desperate the hiring manager is
My old manager recently became a director at OCI, and now his linked in username is "name (hiring software engineers)"... they seem fairly desperate
Next time you talk to the HM ask if you will be working on region build ops work or new dev projects
Op run away, they will hire you and if it's a new team make you do build and deploy and write terraform. They will gaslight you asking this is time to show ownership. Make clear that you are interested in Dev
The interviewer probably got the loop competency mixed.
You are coming to do ops work only so system design is not really necessary. All you need to show is you can restart the server and willingly in the morning (e.g. 2am).
Not sure about other teams. But our team is definitely not as bad as how people present it here. We go oncall once every 4-5 months and have a dedicated SRE team to do region build stuff.
This is the exception not the norm.
Which team?
