Anybody IC4 and above hate and demean coding here. All they want to do is attend calls 9 am to 9 pm and sort of manage other developers. Prior to this I mostly worked at medium startups where CTO used to love to code as well. So this came as a little cultural shock to me. Does anybody know why is it such the case at Oracle? Do their managers reward them for being visible everywhere? (as far as I have observed their managers aren’t unhappy with them not contributing to code) And do other big firms also tend to have most ICs who dont wanna code but manage others instead? PS: Am not part of OCI so not sure hows the culture there.

Startups and big orgs have a completely different feel to them. Big orgs generally work a lot slower than startups, so that’s probably why you feel this way.
