Seem like PayPal is trimming some of their pandemic fat. Best of luck out there, hopefully it's not many SWE. https://www.cnbc.com/2023/01/31/paypal-to-lay-off-2000-employees-in-coming-weeks-about-7percent-of-workforce.html?utm_campaign=mb&utm_medium=newsletter&utm_source=morning_brew #paypal #engineering #software #swe #braintree
āHoPeFulLy nOt sWeā, Asshole.
Swe make a org move forward. Harsh truth
Lmfao. This is not a constant, but there is a certain breed of SWE that thinks this is the truth the world should orient itself around. Theyāre the same ones that think SWE can do everyone elseās job.
Hopefully ALL 2000 are SWEs
This SWE entitlement is so appalling. Whether they agree or not, most of the SWEs write CRUD APIs which ChatGPT will start to create. Good luck for that entitlement
You need a SWE to see if it wrote the correct API or one that looks convincingly similar to what was asked but will actually bring down the prod DB. But in most of the other fields, occasional mistakes are ok or anyone could validate, so ChatGPT will replace those fields.
I am sure there will be a service that will be built on top of ChatGPT which even does the validation of the API. The vision of GPT is to able to do product design with simple English inputs. Only the complex apps will need the entire team while simple apps will be designed by ChatGPT with few folks
Not true
How many were cut? Are you expecting waves of layoffs after this one too.
Fuck Dan
Why do you only care about SWE? Other people need living too.
Didn't say I "only" cared about SWE. I just experienced and seen a lot of SWE getting the shack from these recent trimming
What is wrong with you? Why does it matter if itās SWE or recruiter? Either way someone is losing their job.
