Finshed my Masters - Computer science in 2018 with a debt of around 50K USD. Joined my current company in the same time for 80K pay. For two years it was great, they filed for my H1 visa and it got approved. Meanwhile I decreased my debt to 30K. Then things started to turn, management changed, pandemic, no promotions or hikes in the job, realized my friends are making twice the money I am making. Felt it was time to switch jobs, Gave around 14 interviews with Workday,Amazon,Microsoft,Salesforce,Bill.com,Chewy,Discover,Blackrock,Twilio,Meta,Microsoft,Samsara,Bottomline. Only offer among them was Bottomline(T.C : 140K), T.C got doubled and visa transfer approved. Mean while I cleared Amazon phone screen after second attempt. But, I had to travel out of USA for a family emergency, Bottomline revoked my offer before I joined, for asking time off(3 weeks). Meanwhile I had to postpone Amazon onsite for 3-4 weeks. After I returned, Amzon recruiter didn't respond when I asked about the onsite schedule. Feels like I am being pulled back by some invsible force when I am trying to make some progress. Job market is dull and I am no longer searching for new jobs. Decided not to take it to my mind and I got to terms with it. One good thing among all this mess is I managed to clear my student debt recently. Y.O.E : 5 T.C : 86K #software #softwareengineer #tech #faang #microsoft #meta #facebook #amazon
Hey at least you're debt free, that's big! Don't give up on applying but maybe limit to only one or two companies at a time for a while
🙏
Job search can be very tough and annoying. Just keep your head up and keep trying. You will thank yourself in the future for continuing to try and not giving up
Thank you!
Job application can drive a man insane. The stress is real. Don’t let it get to you.
🙏
Congrats on being debt free, OP! That’s huge. You’ll get another job with better pay soon. Keep on hustling, it’ll get you far.
Thank you.
You can try amazon again, you might get called by a new team . Can offer you some internal recommendations, which roles are you looking into.
Sure, I will D.M you. Thank you.
Congrats on debt free! Big deal. Good priorities.
Why did you decide to spend that much on Master's degree?
Cost of living + expenses + tuition + intrest for 5 years = 50K.
OP - Things will be fine. Few things we can control and a lot we can't. Keep your best foot forward. All the best!
Thank you so much.
Just keep pushing. Good things will come. I failed 25 interviews before landing 4 job offers. Even no name companies are hiring and offering more. You will definitely land something a lot better if you keep trying. It's a numbers game.
Sorry, you should apply to Blend. Similar space so you may have a leg up and TC is higher
Sure, I will.
