Need to make a decision

I have 2 offers on the table Offer 1 A microsoft offer for $136,500 with 20k welcome bonus and 30k stocks. I'll be partially working remote until Covid goes away but then I'm asked to relocate to Seattle, WA with $8k relocation. I own a home and live in it in Florida so relocating will be troublesome. This position is titled SDE II Offer 2 A Globant offer for $175,000 with no welcome bonus nor stocks. Basic 401K until after 6 months. The tittle is Senior Software Developer and it's 100% remote. The way Globant works is that they hire developers to work for valley companies. The company ill be working for is Twitter. I'll be participating in their development efforts and collaborate with Twitter devs/mngt It's a tough call for me because Microsoft looks good on my resume. I can grow faster and I get all the premium benefits. Globant gives me the 100% remote even after covid + I'll gain more experience compared to working for Microsoft. What do you guys say? Which one would you choose? I have ~10 years of full stack experience in non FAANG jobs

You should absolutely NOT relocate to Seattle for 136k at SDE2. You can easily get better than that and you’ll need to with the cost of living here.

That's exactly how I feel. I would rather work at a local tech company and make roughly the same in FL

If I were you I’d stay put and pull in that 175k remote from Florida. Microsoft on your resume doesn’t carry the weight it used to.

Microsoft pheonix7 Mar 2, 2021

175k in Florida sounds way better. if you're dead set on msft tho get more stock. that's low for sde 2

PwC Y_Y Mar 2, 2021

Yeah, I'll be making a whooping $10K a month. My current salary is $6K a month. But some people say it's not stable... that scares me. + shitty health benefits and 401k.

Microsoft pheonix7 Mar 3, 2021

that is an issue. health benefits are good at msft AFAIK. 401k is great with a flat 50% match. so if you max your 401k you can consider that 9,750 added compensation per year. plus ESPP. Microsoft stock at a 10% discount up to 15% of ur paycheck. those are the big benefits I can think of. plus wlb and stability (for the most part)

Salary wise short term the remote job is better. Long term Microsoft on resume will open doors to higher salaries and any other Seattle area tech company. So my choice is Microsoft for career and eventual higher salary. Unless you just wanna chill in Florida too, depends on your life goals.

Microsoft SaveMe Mar 3, 2021

Housing is very expensive in Seattle. Factor that in along with lack of sunny days coming from FL.

What is the difference between WITCH and Globant? Sounds the same to me, they just have clients who you will work for.

Subcontract vs fte??

PwC Y_Y Mar 3, 2021

Yep

IBM SQhu57 Mar 3, 2021

I would negotiate Microsoft to $150k and 60k+ stocks

PwC Y_Y Mar 4, 2021

Chose microsoft. Hope they don't drag me out of FL till 2022
