Design Agency TC

Hello! Interviewing for a senior product/experience design position at FROG. From my understanding this is one of the high tier design agencies, i.e IDEO (1A), Frog (1B). The salary I was quoted during the interview process was 132k. The recruiter said that they couldn’t go higher than 132k, because this is what others in the bracket were making (with more experience than me), and that they practice fair and equitable pay. 132k with a 5% bonus (based on performance) sounds really low for a senior design position in the bay area. Also I asked for a salary range, and the recruiter refused to give it saying thats internal knowledge. For California, aren’t they required to give you a range for the position? Can someone confirm? Comp rn is comparable to offer. Lateral move, but would be a higher title

Unfortunately can’t disclose since the org at my current company is fairly small.

Current TC?

For an agency that’s…fair. Unless things have changed radically, which I doubt. But they can always go a little higher. More experience doesn’t mean more effective. What’s your comp now?

Agencies usually pay 🥜 to designers. 1-2 years of experience at Frog would look impressive on your resume though when you re looking for your next job.

Agencies aren’t known for high pay. The experience can be great, though.

Low pay and tons of work BUT then you can skip a few levels at FAANG and similar if you come from frog/IDEO. Many late 20’s Head of Design with top tier agency experience.

Don’t know if it’s helpful, but for XD lvl 1 in Brooklyn they said the range was 65—75, and lvl 2 was 80–100

The survey is unfortunately flawed because the offer is simultaneously both fair (for the employer/industry) and low (for the role/location).

Agencies have small TC. The CD level of TC is lower compare to a junior designer at any FAANG or tech. there was a research about this recently. The CD at agency in nyc around 130k:( unfortunately.

~130 was the typical offer for senior designer @ Frog in NYC. The pay is much lower than comparable roles in tech, you're supposed to get tons of portfolio building projects. Frog is a little better than other agencies in its process covering more useful skills than the normal agency ego-driven "lets all freak out and not sleep for three days and cry" approach some other agencies take.
