looks like 14.5-16.5% are gonna be bottom bucketed :( https://www.businessinsider.com/meta-layoffs-doubles-target-lowest-performance-ratings-non-regrettable-attrition-2022-12 #tech
Meta said “WAIT!!! We are not done yet.” It’s like tech competing to get rid of the most amount of employees, my money is on Meta though, the metaverse really did a number.
People need to understand that more layoffs are good news, we need to cool down economy which Federal reserve put on a cocaine due to unlimited money printing in 2020 and 2021. Need more layoffs so we can reduce wage inflation and rebuilt. Sad but true
Tell other industries to do them then, don’t depress our comp.
Nooo don't tell them, not every college class was important to them back then, just coding lol.
Is there a non paywall article
Didn’t they always have something like this ?
Not at this scale. Amazon which is known as PIP factory used to do 5% ( although they did more in recent quarters)
seriously??? the infamous PIP program was a culling of only 5% of people each year? all that whining for the worst one out of twenty devs?
This has been around for many many years
This is nothing new, and is a return to pre-COVID perf culture.
Is it the same across levels or some levels are hit more than others?
There's role then perf then level (as in seniority) precedence. What this sums up to is: some roles are more important than others (e.g. SDEs and SDMs can do without TPMs and PMTs), better performance just means you're going to be wanted at any point and if people still need to be laid off after these cut points: an L6 > L5 > L4.
Same as Google then
Those laid off were the lucky ones. They can hide behind being part of indiscriminate action. The next set will be known to be low performers
