I’ve seen many companies including my own not to announce layoffs and instead do PIP layoffs. Companies put bottom 10-15% of staff on pip and give them an impossible project to complete within a month. That way, they don’t have to pay severance or get media attention. Anyone else seen this going on? At least Amazon is transparent about it but oracle OCI is doing the same as well. As a manager here, upper management has told me to pip two of my engineers and I am feeling like shit about it. Heard from friends at Etsy and Rippling that they are doing same.
Datadog started this last year with a huge culture shift. But we have balls, we just let people go without a PIP, too.
Just fire them
This is referred to as “Talent Density”
PIP generally are a waste of time. Maybe once upon a time it was a final warning to an employee to improve or else. These days it means the company wants you gone. Almost no one survives a PIP.
Going on at G as well. We’re also doing role eliminations when no other teams are hiring. The sneaky ba*tards.
Happening where I work too "Silent layoffs (Layoffs)" https://www.teamblind.com/us/s/hzd2CHoR
This is brutal - Accenture did something like this last year for 20k employees as the CEO was “pleased” delivering their quarterly results
It’s the coward’s way out but “silent layoffs” are the norm these days.
It should be illegal because they’re doing it so they don’t have to give proper warning. Getting around the WARN act in California, and other states have similar. Snowflake is doing it too
Definitely I don’t think the government cares
amazon is abusing this heavily american labor laws are the worst And a lot of times it isn’t the bottom. If your bottom was removed from layoffs managers r forced to pip their middle that survived. If you recently get promoted you default to 2nd lowest rating then become target for layoffs or pipoffs

Not sure, but something like this is changing my perspective in working for companies in Big Tech.
Most companies are already onboard
AT&T not so much. They are having trouble keeping talent.
