Hi All, I just took my pip severance without attempting the goals of the plan. I don't have another job lined up, although several promising leads. I'm here to answer questions. I was on a dev plan for 60 days, with subjective goals. I worked my ass off to achieve the goals, but upon evaluation, my manager claimed none of the 12 goals was achieved...lol. PIP had similar goals, doesn't take a genius to read the writting on the wall. I decided to take the severance and run. b/Before they give you the cash they make you sign a ridiculous settlement agreement. I refused to sign due to a clause that would restrict me from working for any business that amazon competes in anywhere globally - LOL. I had a small win by having them remove that clause and finally signed the agreement. #severance #layoff #pip #amazon #aws
Literally copied out of the plan..
How much severance did they offer you? And what was you tenure?
Just over 2 years and severance was 17 weeks, roughly 33% of annual base salary.
Thanks, that seems like a lot given people usually say 4 or 10 weeks. Best of luck to you!
Good luck! How much was severance?
17 weeks of base salary so about 33% of annual base salary.
Any visa concerns?
What Organization?
AWS Public Sector Sales
Sorry to hear that friend, thought things were more calm on the AWS Sales and Professional Services side...
Since you took severance, does the agreement ensure that you would be barred from working for Amazon in future? You mostly likely would not like to work but is there an actual clause that would prevent from working for Amazon or it's subsidiaries?
So coincidentally, my HR rep is a friend of mine, and disclosed some info. I am do not hire for a period of 3 years. After that time it is possible but will require VP approval. So essentially I'm shut out of Amazon and all it's subsidiaries. But honestly, that doesn't bother me much, plenty of opportunities out there.
Amazon URA marker and Do Not Rehire upon exit kick in from start of secretive Dev List / Focus / Coaching which precedes the PIP / Pivot stage so no Boomerang or internal transfer is possible without unobtainable VP approval. They dont want anyone who knows the system back in the barn.... although why anyone would want to Boomerang back to this shady management culture escapes me anyway... except for unbelievable war stories of how horrible it is - check out the low Amazon Blind rating compared to the many many many better tech companies out there.... a gutter level ranking well earned by management and paid in reports sweat and blood and insomnia.
Was your role quota carrying? What was attainment YoY prior to PIP?
What role?
If they thought you uncapable, why preventing you from working for compititors? :P
They're protecting their IP.
There are usually clauses in the severance contract to not compromise IP regardless of who someone works for next. This is just a bs tactic adopted from some other toxic cultures seen in olden day companies.
Don’t sign anything that restricts you after you leave. It is ridiculous that for a small sum they try to make people sign these things.
I am really curious to know about the subjective goals? what are they exactly
Here are a few... -Use of ‘I think’, ‘maybe’, ‘I assume’ - Manager to monitor how you communicate. Write a new plan, judgement of manager on effectiveness of new plan. -Demonstrate ability to pushback on key calls/discussions/emails
ooh sounds very subjective 🤣
