---------------- Update 11 Done! This process is a marathon, not a sprint. Nearly 3 months for me, although I got COVID which added 2-3 weeks worth of delays. I feel like I did very well overall. Execution was my weakest in both rounds, although my second Execution I felt was stronger than my first. Both L&D interviews I nailed, and Sense was very strong in both rounds as well. If I had to grade myself I’d say: Sense 1: 9.5 Execution 1: 7.0 Leadership 1: 8.5 Execution 2: 7.5 Sense 2: 9.0 Leadership 2: 9.5 Total: 51/60 = 85% I feel like there was nothing else I could have done to put myself in a position to be successful, which is cool. Things went well, interviewers were good, and otherwise it’s out of my hands. I will provide updates when I hear back. Fingers crossed. ---------------- Update 10 My last round time/date has been finalized. It will consist of Product Sense, Execution, and two Leadership and Drive rounds. I do not have an answer as to why two L&D rounds were scheduled. My only thought is that it helps provide additional signal in the potential discussion of leveling if you don't clearly fall into one level or another. Any insight from current / ex Meta employees on this would be helpful. For all I know it could be completely random and mean nothing. This will be the last update before I finish things up and have a final outcome from the interview process. Thanks to everyone who chimed in on this thread and helped each other out. Hundreds have DM'd me saying they were able to connect with peers, do mocks, etc. which is the point of this community. ---------------- Update 9 For scheduling conflict reasons / holidays, my final round was pushed out. I will be having it shortly and will update as soon as I have any new information. In the meantime I am simply continuing with 1-2 hours daily of prep, rotating between: general online research, Product Alliance, Exponent, YouTube, various PM books, and practice questions - nothing very innovative, just trying to build muscle memory. ---------------- Update 8 Thank you all who participated in the AMA this morning - especially @Facebook who offered a ton of insightful interview advice. I hope everyone found it useful - if you have additional questions you can post them in the thread! ---------------- Update 7 A very awesome Blind member and current FB employee has offered to do a 30 minute Q&A this weekend, specifically pertaining to PM at FB. Date: Saturday 12/11 at 9:30AM PST Link: https://meet.google.com/jse-dyzi-afd To be courteous with FB employee's time, please DM me your questions in advance so I can organize and have them ready to ask. If you don't want to use DM's you can also post them in the top comment below. I'm trying to avoid a free for all scenario during the Q&A. Thank you! ---------------- Update 6 I got a call from my recruiter this week letting me know that I did really well in the first two interviews and they want to schedule me for the final round. For those of you wondering details: - I was called within 24 hours of finishing my interviews (not emailed). - There was minimal feedback given from the actual rubrics the interviewers used. I don't think they can give out that information so if you're looking for substantial feedback I would adjust your expectations. - Unfortunately the last round of interviews can't be scheduled until January. I was hoping to schedule them sooner while everything is fresh in my mind but I supposed that just gives me more time to review. This would make the end to end process a minimum of 2 months and more likely 3. - The last round is: another product sense, another product execution, and the leadership/drive which the recruiter told me candidates often screw up. I suspect its because people mostly prepare for sense and execution and just wing the leadership one. - I was handed off to a second recruiter who does the last portion of the interviews and closing negotiations. Kinda a bummer as I liked the first person I was dealing with, but I was told this is standard practice. - I was told the conversation of level would be one of the last to be had. I am going to push for L5 but more likely I'd be seen as an L4. - If I do get an offer, the team matching phase I can take as long as needed to find a good fit. ---------------- Update 5 I have been messaging back and forth with a current FB employee that has agreed to give up time on their weekend for a Q&A session. This is tentatively scheduled for Saturday 12/11 from 9:30am PST to 10:00am PST. I was thinking to set up a Google Meet for people to join, in which case I will post the link here. Because we want to be sensitive with time, I will moderate the session. You can DM me your questions ahead off time and I'll arrange them on a first come first serve basis to be answered. If people just fire off tons of questions during the Q&A it will too disorganized, so I think this is probably the best way to get the most value out of the session. ---------------- Update 4 - I haven't updated this as much as I would have liked during the process but I will go back and fill in any gaps when my experience is complete. - I've been studying / practicing a lot. Originally I planned 1-2 hours 3 times a week and it became obvious pretty quickly that I needed to dedicate more time. The amount of preparation obviously varies widely from applicant to applicant. - I use ClickUp in my personal life to keep everything I have going on organized, so far I have clocked 50 hours of prep time on there between watching videos, mocking, working through sample questions, and creating frameworks. - 50 hours over the roughly 27 days I've prepped so far is ~2 hours per day (including weekends) for reference. For people who need to do a lot of prep (me), you will definitely need extremely strong time management skills unless you can slack off from your day job and nobody notices. - In related news I received one external offer so far. I am hoping for another one by the end of next week. If I am able to get an offer from FB I am hoping to use these external offers to my advantage and perhaps go for an L5 instead of L4. ---------------- Update 3 - Unfortunately the 1-1 coaching I had set up for this weekend had to cancel on me but I’ll update when they can reschedule. - No response from the member who offered to do a livestream Q&A but as soon as I hear back I’ll post details about day / time. - Dedicated about 10 hours this weekend on Product Alliance. I started with the Hacking the PM Interview course but am skipping a few lessons that are specific to other companies. Overall useful so far and will tackle the FB specific one next. ---------------- Update 2 - Connected with two FB product mentors through their online portal. Meeting with both next week. - Scheduled first interview coaching session this weekend. - Setting up a live Q&A / AMA with a Blind member for this community. I will post the link in the thread when we have a chat link set up. ---------------- Update 1 - Wasn't expecting this post to blow up, I got a ton of messages and will go through them soon - Reviewed all the initial information the FB recruiter sent over and scheduled for ~4 weeks out - Subscribed to Product Alliance and went through "Hacking the PM Interview" course ---------------- Original Post I had my first call with a Facebook talent sourcer this week and have opted to go down the long road of interviewing, for better or for worse. I plan to document this experience as completely as possible so I can get some insights, resources, and recommendations to increase my chances of getting an offer. I also hope the thread will end up being comprehensive enough to help out some other PMs who have questions about the process / are looking for resources for their own prep. Initial call broke down the process as follows: - First round is a minimum of 2 and maximum of 4 (45) minute interviews in one day - These interviews are product sense and product execution questions - Second round is an additional 3 (45) minute interviews in one day - These interviews are product sense, product execution, and leadership/drive Other useful information: - It was obvious they need to fill a lot of roles - Because of this, the talent sourcer mentioned several times they try to help the candidate get in the best possible position for success - They sent over several links for resources, a PDF guide, as well as videos to mock interviews Things that would be helpful for me: - Any FB folks who want to chime in with more information on the process - Any FB folks willing to work with me 1-1 (can compensate) - Go-to online resources for product sense and product execution questions / videos - Assuming things go well, information on what level is realistic (L4/L5) as I have never negotiated a tier 1 offer before External resources I've gathered so far (but have no personal experience with): - Reforge - Stellar Peers - I Got An Offer - Product Academy - Try Exponent My preparation plan: - Dedicating 1-2 hours every Monday, Wednesday, Friday to general research, studying, practice questions, and videos. - Attending the (3) live mock interviews that FB sent links to - Finding people to do 1-1 mocks with, or a compensated mentor - Utilizing the FB supplied connections to link with current employees about questions / mocks ------- Current TC: $255k YOE: 2 in PM / 8 total #Facebook #meta #pm #product #productmanager
In a similar stage as you. Got reached out to by a recruiter and having my phone round in a few weeks. I got Product Alliance to practice but think a lot of the info is out on the web if you search. Let me know if you would be interested to do some mocks in the coming weeks.
Also in a similar stage. When is your interview? Open to do some mocks in a few weeks
Happy to mock with both of you, feel free to DM
They also have live mocks. Did you attend those?
I did sign up for them - there are 3 over the next 3 weeks.
