PM interview, is it true?
For Product manager interviews, is it true that when asked a question like "what is your favorite product" or "how would you design a product" you just launch into a long story about your favorite service, it's goals, target users, etc? Seems like a long answer so wanted to double check that is the correct response.
You can summarize the target user, the goal and how it does an awesome job at that in 2 sentences. E.g. Echo - busy folks, maybe a parent, wants to quickly add items to their grocery list, wants to turn a tv show to pacify a crying kid, at the same time switch on the light in the living room. It does a great job at solving these problems for the ideal user.
Yes it's true. I do for my team and I have been interviewed by other companies who do something similar. Once I have gone through ask to pick a product and add a feature then of course you have to justify that. It has to be the whole thing - design, feature, prioritization, market size etc, In our case, in the very first round, we give a scenario, and ask the candidate to go through the process of design, MVP definition, epics/user stories definition, some Ux, feedback, adjustments, pivot if needed, metrics to validate success/failure etc. we ask for market sizing and other typical pm questions in the follow up interviews.

We build products for our clients and play pm role. Yes, there some products too. similar to Pivotal Labs buildings products to clients.
I don't think so - answer the question and give one or two reasons why you like it. Let them ask you follow up questions before going into a monologue
