PM role in Azure [vs] GCP

I got offers from both Microsoft IDC and Google India for a PM role (L64 and L5 respectively). TC is almost same. So, now my confusion is; which one offers better career/growth and WLB? Products would be: Azure Data Factory (Purview+Synapse+DF) and Google Data Analytics (Looker+DataStudio+BigQuery). Please let me know which of these would offer better professional growth for me 4-5 years down the line, considering the above-mentioned product lines. Current Exp: ~15 years #pm #product #productmanager

As I mentioned, both have offered same TC. I will certainly negotiate but before that, I would like to know which one of these 2 product lines offer better future prospects.

Sharing tc breakup is called blind tax. People don't respond without getting this info.

TC = 80L

Google bool1 Apr 16, 2021

I don't buy this. Stop shit posting. Atleast Googlers know a ballpark number.

No one responded to the actual query! Everybody is interested in knowing the other person's numbers :)

Google bool1 Apr 16, 2021

Yes. Now either reveal the numbers or shit post on LinkedIn.

Google all the way. They would be able to beat the MS number easily. Also Google is a very engg driven firm so suitable for tech pm role. Refreshers are way better in Google. And Google brand name matters a lot. With that you can come back to MS later at principal level. Right now they might be lowballing you heavily.

Mmm... I am also thinking on the same lines. Thanks a lot @TsuNaMo šŸ¤ I was getting carried away by few discussion/threads on WLB aspect in GCP division

Microsoft kabil Apr 16, 2021

Microsoft has a great wlb, but I guess wlb shouldn't be an issue at Google, what threads are you referring to OP? I would say Google would be a better choice because of the better brand name, in general it has a higher hiring bar so the talent should be better than MSFT. Also, is 80L the TC offered to you or your current TC?

Microsoft kabil Apr 17, 2021

@wudpecker please share some details on the TC offered by Google (base, stocks)?

Hi @kabil Thank you so much for your earlier response on WLB. Regarding TC; I got 80+ from MS. And G's offer is under discussion. I have shared the MS numbers. And I know G would certainly beat them. But I would like to understand which one offers better career progression and satisfaction when I look back after say 5 years! (Instead of just getting carried away by the ~ 10 to 15L TC difference today)

*I have shared the MS numbers with G's HR team and they will revert with the offer soon (hopefully by next week)

Better brand name - Google Better enterprise product prospects - Microsoft (Google is really fighting for the scraps left behind by AWS and Microsoft in enterprise) Which team in Azure Data specifically? How were your interviews? Mind sharing your experience?

wudpecker OP Apr 17, 2021

Thank you so much c22h18o11. Regarding team in Azure: I would mostly get the Azure Purview product (I think it is part of ADF currently!) Interviews: Couple of rounds were purely Tech Interviews with a Dev Director and a Principal Engineering Manager respectively. And remaining rounds are all with PMs; each of which focussed on specific segments (Behavioural, Analytical, Design+Strategy respectively)

NetApp cHAD67 Apr 18, 2021

If I were you,I would choose google..I got calls from both and right now i am going through the interviews ..from the first interaction itself ..it feels like google wants people to succeed whereas msft folks are mostly rude (there are obvious exceptions) .Plus brand google > brand msft But thatā€™s just my opinion

Yeah. G Recruiters are THE BEST that I have seen. I was more worried about future growth of GCP vs Azure

NetApp cHAD67 Apr 19, 2021

Gcp will grow in ML domain and it has miles to go so good opportunities for pm Azure is also great but bit saturated and engineering management dominated Google is great for pm growth like FB Msft is highly engineering dominated so if you are from good tech background then msft will be a good fit Otherwise google is obvious choice anyday
