If your getting a windows laptop it depends on your job. There's the basic model and the developer model which I believe tech positions tend to get. I have the developer laptop. I have a Dell Precision Intel i7 with 32gb of RAM. They cost more but if your manager signs off on it it's fine.

What bankguy said. Totally dependent on your role but the following machines are standard Dell Latitude 14 and 15 inch Dell Precision laptop Microsoft Surface (customer facing or if you need a touchscreen) MacBook Air and Pro
Dell latitude for the data/quant positions. Some (less than 1%) of swe gets MacBooks
