PO Box so my salary stays the same

I work at FAANG where they're going to reduce my salary once I apply to be remote in Chicago. Can I just get a PO Box in Sf that forwards mail to my home so my TC doesn't take a hit? Or would that complicate things like tax and stuff? Disclaimer to my HR: If this is not allowed legally I will not do it I just don't know. TC: 550k

You cannot claim a PO box as your residence. Though the houses in SF are only slightly bigger...

The sarcasm is strong with this one. Might fly over the head for non Bay Area folks 😂

I don't think any of the A's in FAANG stand for AppZen

Old account wanted to add a challenge to identifying me just a little bit

No, your state of residence matters for tax and also other benefits like health and life insurance. Employers dont ask for your mailing address. They ask for your residential address for these reasons. I suspect lying on it for gain would be fraud.

What’s your base salary?

Amazon LPB8free Aug 28, 2021

Agreed, this is fraud and don’t get caught because CA will be coming to get what is theirs. 😂 Note, no company will allow you to use a PO Box as your legal address 🤦‍♂️

What about like SF to San Diego?

Amazon LPB8free Aug 28, 2021

Same state so it doesn’t matter then. You are going to pay the same in state tax in SF as you would in SD. So, no issue there. The problem is if you leave CA, and say you don’t live in that state anymore but actually do.

Probably get fired if you got caught

Didn't think about health insurance and stuff. Probably if single and never using insurance you could get away with it. But need full address, not po box

Use a friend’s address in SF and still move to Chicago

Amazon wawY45 Aug 28, 2021

Your health insurance likely won't work that way; and taxes would be complicated, plus you'll likely be violating company policy. It probably depends whether you intend to keep appearances past the return to the office, e.g., if you decide to settle in Chicago for good or just for a few months.

Better off just negotiating with your current employer using competing offers.
