PSA: Huge signup bonus for the Chase Sapphire Preferred credit card

If you're going to spend $4k in the next 3 months you should get the Chase Sapphire Preferred card. The signup bonus is 100k points if you spend $4k in the first 3 months. You can redeem them for $1000 cash back or $1250 if you redeem your points for travel. Annual fee is $95 but it's waived for the first year if you apply in-branch. You can downgrade the card in the second year to a no annual fee card. Just putting info out there for anyone who needs it especially since some of us are moving cross-country for RTO and this is an easy way to get 25% cash back on those expenses. DM if you want a referral #credit #chase

How is the company making money lol

Amazon mikom Aug 11, 2021

You're asking how the biggest bank in the country makes money..

EverQuote bellcell Aug 11, 2021

They lost a fuckton of money when they offered 100k the first time around iirc

Amazon rnkyaKPapa Aug 11, 2021

Can you transfer the points to your spouse?

Intel HW_engr Aug 11, 2021

Yes

Northrop Grumman willmaxtc Aug 11, 2021

I fked up and applied online when I did it

HBO it_nrd Aug 11, 2021

Get the Sapphire Reserve or go back to school.

T-Mobile IpOV85 Aug 11, 2021

Get the preferred for the sign up bonus. Depending on your lifestyle, it might be a better card anyways. Chase is coming out with changes this month to the preferred and reserve and they are making the preferred a lot more attractive vs the reserve. (I have a reserve now.)

C’mon HBO, bad comment. In this situation, if you want the highest ROI you always get the card with the higher sign up bonus (unless you are putting $100K+ in Category spend through the card to make up for the difference of 40K pts+$250.00 effective difference in annual fee) then upgrade your card in year 2

Dm if anyone wants a referral

I signed up for amex platinum when they offered 100k - this doesn’t seem like a great deal

Google neHw72bA OP Aug 11, 2021

Different strokes for different folks. I personally don’t see myself using most of the platinum’s perks. And I have to pay $700. This card has no fee and I’ll get $1000 back to do whatever with it.

Lol Uber. Did you even run your spend through a credit card calculator? I HIGHLY doubt you getting a higher ROI with the platinum 100K offer vs the Sapphire preferred 100K offer

I don’t know how any of this cc hacking works. What if I have a chase freedom already?

Google neHw72bA OP Aug 11, 2021

You should be fine. I think you wouldn’t get the bonus if you opened another sapphire (preferred or reserve) in the past 4 years

AAA qpim66 Aug 11, 2021

Better yet, transfer your points to your spouse with CSR to get 1500 worth of travel. @tc, you wont get the bonus if you get a bonus from the chase freedom family within 48 months i think.

Atlassian ctl4939 Aug 11, 2021

Chase points are better used for travel. I've been churning cards for years and probably redeemed 30k+ in free travel. Feel free to DM if anyone wants more info.

Amazon TigerAlive Aug 12, 2021

If I have to apply for the card in branch, then why do I need a referral? I mean, do I need a referral? Or is my first next step to find a Chase branch, walk in, and request this offer?

GitHub LwtC24 Aug 12, 2021

They referral would be a kickback to the person who referred you, but you miss out on the $95 first year waive fee. The kickback is 20k points IIRC

Amazon TigerAlive Aug 12, 2021

Do i need to get a referral to have the $95 fee waived?
