Palantir Forward Deployed Software Engineer DC

I've been considering applying to Palantir recently for a Forward Deployed Software Engineer position in DC. Ive tried to find out what I can on the position, but Glassdoor and Blind give me a very mixed view of either 1 star or 5 star reviews. I have two main questions: 1. Do Forward Deployed Software Engineers still do traditional dev work? I've heard much of the role is just deploying systems and not engineering new solutions 2. What is WLB like working with a government client? Is it a 40 hour week + an oncall every few weeks? How many incidents are there during an on call shift? Thanks for help answering #palantir

Can't say for sure with palantir, but the fed clients/projects I've had you don't usually work late. Rarely over 40 hrs and incidences aren't that crazy.

I appreciate the insight, thank you

In a different role but my POV: 1) yes, but not the only thing you do - you are contributing to codebase from the field big also a lot of deploying and customer work - so if you’re number one priority is dev’ing not the right role 2) if you’re in DC it shouldn’t be too bad all local travel if any and WLB will be worse if you do cleared work. There are other teams that get paged first for p0 but it does happen. Reason to take the role imo would be mission, optimize for growth on solving client problems, and you can set boundaries on WLB if it’s not as desired once you’ve proven you’re a reasonable person after a few months

I appreciate the response! I'm fine with time being split between traditional software development and deployments, but mainly I wanted to make sure it wasn't entirely deployments. The recruiter who's reached out to me says it would be for a cleared role. The recruiter also mentioned that team matching isn't performed until you're hired, but that they take your preferences on WLB and other aspects into account when doing so - would you say that's accurate with your experience?

+1 to everything said here and yeah your recruiter is correct. The things you share about your interests in the interview process and also the strengths you show determine team placement. You aren’t siloed to one team or project and are encouraged to try different things as your interests change.
