I interned at SpaceX and got a return offer and have new grad offers from the rest. Compensation for all is in the same ballpark. I don't really care about WLB as long as I'm learning and working on interesting stuff. Comments from folks at each are super appreciated!
Don’t come to palantir, lots of sh*I about to happen. Stay away
Brand-wise, Google is best for your resume. Personally I’d be interested in anduril too for cool tech + potential IPO gains + cool mission, but that depends on your political views, risk tolerance, etc.
do you think getting Google on resume is worth that much more than the others? I'd say my risk tolerance is high and I don't care about the politics
No, I’d think all except flexport are well-known enough it wouldn’t make much difference. But idk what I’m talking about tbf
How did you like SpaceX? What did you work on? (if you can disclose)
I liked it a lot, I worked on the flight software team, specifically for the F9 rocket
That’s awesome. Was that all in C or C++? Do you have an aerospace or mech engineering background?
Google offer should be valid for a year. Choose the smallest company, and if things do not work out, go to Google within a year.
Drop Flexport and Palantir IMO, both not as cool IMO (supply chain/defense analytics software). IMO, interesting stuff will be at SpaceX or Anduril, not Google.
Agreed, where do you lean between SpaceX and Anduril?
I’ve never worked at either so if anybody has clues on this, it’s definitely you. Do you want to continue working on flight software? Do you like the challenges it brings? What kind of role does Anduril have you in, and does it sound as interesting to you as SpaceX? Do you want to be in Irvine or in. Hawthorne? Do you want to be in your original team in SpaceX, or do you want to experience something new? Did SpaceX leave anything to be desired? If so, do you think you’ll get that at Anduril? All good questions to think about when you are comparing these opportunities.
Go to Anduril. The work will be 10x more exciting, more educational, and you will build a network. You may also get rich from pre IPO stock going 🚀.
Do you think this is true even relative to SpaceX? (which has starship orbital launch and a potential starlink IPO coming up)
Not sure. Both of those are my top picks. Anduril is smaller I believe which has pros/cons. Surprisingly I don't think the WLB is worse at Anduril. I'd pick whichever one gives you a more interesting team
Poll with Google as an option, I wonder what the results will be.
I'm a little surprised though, from my POV Google is the least interesting option
People on blind don’t prioritize that, it’s just money + prestige to them.
SpaceX will push you harder, but G will give you refreshers. G will let you grow at your own pace, so if you aren't motivated you will grow slower there than SpaceX, but much less likely to be pipped. Palantir is risky - they don't seem to me (or investors...) To have a reasonable business model of making money, so expect layoffs when times get tough. I don't know about the others, so they are clearly smaller and this likely more risky wrt company layoff/downsize. Without more pay why take that risk?

Cool, I guess G and SpaceX would be a good start for your career and will open doors for any company in the future.
