Got offers from Palo alto networks as principal engineer (200k base + 15% bonus + 300k RSU/4 year). Doordash as E5 (206k base + 540k RSU/4 year + 15k joining bonus). Both offers in ML domain. 8 years exp. Overall both offers look similar to me, however, position wise Palo alto is better. My inclination is towards doordash as I think it has more personal growth and it has better tech stack. Unclear from WLB for both companies. Its not clear how the growth of Doordash will be after IPO with the gig worker issue and covid.
Make a poll!
Idk about DoorDash, but I know PAN - it’s very political organization like GoT level, and they are struggle to innovate big time, because their cash cow is still same old same old. The whole cyber market now is in a weird place, really. It’s very stable, but it’s kinda flat with not much growth and even though companies are trying to come up with new revenue stream, the market for new stuff is not really big. So unless you’re a security nerd and you just love this stuff, and want to grow as a security pro I wouldn’t recommend to join any security company at the moment.
Can you do anything with those RSUs?
I voted Palo Alto Networks because working for DoorDash sounds super boring IMHO. Like woohoo, you get your pizza a little bit faster, big whoop. But I could be wrong, maybe it’s interesting to work there.
Consumer And Retail internet is where the money is.
PAN is in a enterprise biz while DoorDash is in the consumer space. PAN's goal for ML is driven by the need for new sexy technology while DoorDash's is (perhaps) for optimization (delivery, revenue, marketing). So my friend, decide which you are more interested in. They are quite different. Yes, RSU, stability and Politics matters and it happens everywhere. PANW was down to $130 earlier this year and rallied closer to $300. Choose what your heart desires for your future, not for today.
Doordash will never ipo. All the stocks are worthless
It looks like ipo in Q4. https://moneymorning.com/2020/09/09/is-the-doordash-ipo-worth-investing-in/
Never say never Facebook! This pandemic has been a boon to the delivery apps!
Got the same offer at PANW. DM me if you want to discuss. There is some more room left.
I'm out of DMs.
Yes. Offer looks too low. Especially if you are a dev. Principal qa can get 300k.

I’ve heard Doordash has constant incident fires. Might be on call all the time. PANW seems more stable. Also stable stock
Maybe its team dependent, probably more on the front end. ML is a pretty slow process and needs to go through a lot of A/B testing before it goes to production.
The dasher app crashes causing cascade of issues downstream. They have been battling technical debt across the board for years.
