Quite a shocker, out of blue after 20 years, especially when he seem to be a candidate for the next MS CEO. Anyone has more details?
Candidate for CEO 😂
Surprised
Not Indian 🇮🇳 so can’t be next CEO
He is being replaced by a non-Indian.
Yeah, have you seen windows 11?
Retirement, pushed out, in line for ceo of flexport?
He said he was excited to appear at the Surface event next week. So retirement is probably not the case.
He was fired. Surface line which was doing a great few years ago was doomed by him. I'm surprised why it took that long to get rid of this guy.
Surface needs a reset 🙂 Leaders need to step down. All of them
Surface is surface because of Panos. I worked previously in Surface from the days when Surface started out and Panos was personally leading it. It’s a loss for surface and gain for Amazon ( rumor is he’s going to head Alexa and Echo). He did exude an energy which was quite motivating if you worked on the products. Surface got affected lately due to pandemic macroeconomics and also I’d have to say some bad decisions by them to spend so much on phones.
Not sure how familiar you are with the current surface lineup. I used surface till last month and had Surface Book 1, 2 and 3. Literally no difference in all three versions. Surface is not iPhone for which people will line up to buy every year for literally no changes in product other than name. Surface still using Second tier processor and charging top tier price. Less IO ports. It's a major failure of leadership.
According to Wikipedia he is some visionary lol: Since joining Microsoft in 2004, Panay has become known as a creative visionary in product-making. He created the Surface product line of premium devices in 2012. Not sure what he ‘created’. I’m not even going to take the time to research it, but pretty sure Surface came after iPad…
He’s going to Earth Best Employer
Yes he was laid off due to useless surface
