I hear it's long hours or average rewards at Facebook.
It is no different from managing it at MS (worked at both). The difference is you have choice to achieve more impact and grow faster if you want. You have much faster cycle of shipping your product and learning from feedback. No matter where you work, you have to make choices and manage your time/responsibilities
This. If you want balance, make it a priority. Find a team that values it. It’s a big company with all types of teams.
Correct
What’s so bad about average rewards?
Nothing bad.. But won't you kinda get stuck at the same level? Will you stick around at FB forever?
If you’re E5, that’s fine. I don’t think it’s a good idea to stick around any company too long.
Blind perception of FB WLB is skewed. I’m a parent, L6 equivalent, have had above average ratings for the past 4 or 5 cycles
Probably depends on the team to be honest.
Which team @sum41pwd
Level 6. First cycle this half was exceeds and worked 40-50 hours while raising two kids. Work smarter not longer.
Are most people working smarter and longer at Facebook?
Funny
Is it different outside of Engineers?
Could this partially be due to leetcode and high offers that level people higher than they actually can handle?
Does Facebook offer an adoption service, where you can adopt out your baby after birth? Then you will have more time for impact (and save company on maternity / paternity leave too!)
I am sure if they read this they will and pitch it as a perk which shows they "care about employee well being".
Simple. You don’t need to manage it if you don’t join fb. Prevention is better than cure.
