Pathways out of UX Research?

I'm no longer motivated to be a UX researcher. Let alone a robust enough growth track for talented ICs at big tech, there isn't even a modicum of respect. Great research can directly impact product strategy independent of design and I've found this really gets the goat of design leadership, especially if they're insecure (as they often are, being marginalised themselves). From being told "If you'll just recruit, we can do the rest" to designers literally putting their name on my work and being praised by global teams, to being told I should just moderate and let designers write and present the findings reports - the lack of respect and understanding is profound and has sapped me of my joy in research. I don't want to be a researcher any more - at least not at any place where research isn't a completely independent function reporting into a CEO. I don't want to manage research either as it would be even worse to see this happening to bright eyed bushy tailed researchers. Any thoughts on good career switches for me? I still want good WLB and possibly better pay. I don't mind tech - I just want to get out of UX research (and no never into design either).

Hello! As a researcher myself, I have gone through similar feelings. One way is to switch jobs, this has helped me alleviate a lot of these feelings in the past. If that’s not possible, maybe data science or a PM? I’d be happy to chat more!

Get out of Microsoft. It’s much better for researchers. Microsoft is mostly squares

I had a similar issue. I’m personally now focused more on quant UX research to help triangulate other user insights with my quant survey, usability, etc. I sometimes want to be alone and enjoy data without dealing with people …..
