Would you take a pay cut of about 30% to go remote. Bay Area TC: 650K Remote TC: ~400K EDIT: I don’t have a lot of expenses. Maybe a total of 70-80K annually (of which 30K in travel). But I’d like to start a family. And I’m so TIRED of this place and all the pretentiousness. RSM/Kumon classes, it makes my head spin
If they offered me a 30% increase to go into an office I would not take it.
Every poll I make is always 50-50…wtf
See it other way. Either option is not a bad one.
250k more to be in office how is this even a question?
No, I’ll just find a company not managed by dick heads.
Correct answer. The vast majority of companies are now full remote with most not even having area specific adjustments. Tell them to eat a bag of dicks and find a real job.
What companies are fully remote that will still pay 650k?
I had a similar option but not this much tc. I took the higher paying, in office position and hate it. I found out I don’t even have to go to office so I’m Just in the shitty city and with like 15 pct more pay and in tone of the shiftiest companies on the planet. I’d take less pay and remote in a heart beat
$250k would be too big a difference in TC for me.
It depends on your lifestyle, where you are moving remote to, and how much you care about COL/QOL. For example, would I take a 30% cut moving to Birmingham Alabama where f all happens and the schools are garbage? Heck naw man. But would I take that same 30% to move to Nashville, Atlanta, etc? Maybe. Different note, do you live a modest lifestyle or are you living it up? If you’re modest, doesn’t make sense to go anywhere for less $$. But if by remote you only mean wfh vs in office, the only deciding factor is your personally. Will the office drive you insane or can you tolerate/even enjoy the grind? If you’ll be miserable in the office, no amount of money is worth it end of.
I actually like going to the office and meeting people. Always doing small talk. Have a couple of dozen engineers in my org so very people person. But outside that there is nothing to look forward here. I don’t like the weather, scenery (too dry), no lakes/mountains, houses suck bad. Hectic and competitive life esp. for kids. I want to go live in Maine or New Hampshire or maybe Washington
Mine was 20% and I took it.
Abso-fucking-lutely.
Absolutely
