Thoughts from John Oliver

Wow, this was pretty well summarized and moderate. Hamas sucks and Netanyahu and his government sucks The majority of people side with neither. They prop each other up and everyone else suffers as a result. Whole video: https://youtu.be/pJ9PKQbkJv8

Ah so he takes a safe position. The show must go on!

ex-Asana etc/brian OP Nov 13, 2023

Right now extremism is counterproductive and leads to more Palestinians being killed. Extremism is how we got here and it won’t be the way out.

ex-Asana etc/brian OP Nov 13, 2023

I mean that on the part of Israel’s current right wing government especially on whom I attribute a large chunk of the blame for creating the conditions for so much hatred to come into existence as well as actively trying to sabotage the peace process from as early as the days of the Oslo accord. Netanhyahu and Hamas are now a lot more closely linked together for me now and they both need to go.

On point.

- Israel or Palestine? - No English - oldest trick in the book my friend LOL that part killed me

Bank of America devintech Nov 13, 2023

Repeat after me: Israeli terrorism has NOTHING TO DO WITH NETANYAHU and has existed for decades

Apple !keytalent Nov 13, 2023

Why so much hatred?

Microsoft sinax Nov 13, 2023

It's not hatred, it's the truth, Israel is the oppressor

Amazon Shinpachi. Nov 13, 2023

Any human with half a brain can agree that civilians all over the world cannot vouch for their military or government. And this stands for Gazans and regular Israelis.

ex-Asana etc/brian OP Nov 13, 2023

Clearly lots of politicians in government are functioning on less than half a brain then

Amazon Shinpachi. Nov 13, 2023

Correct.

Israelites and Palestinians are nothing but a full fledged display of human tribalism, which is inherent in our closest cousins the chimpanzees too. Plus teritorialism, which is inherent in most animals. Both sides fail to recognize that they are the same human species, and they continue holding abstract made-up constructs of Judaism & Islam to identify themselves. All this is actually so juvenile. We're all just kids who somehow articulate differently than we did at 5. But it's still the same shit.

Amazon bkStoreSec Nov 15, 2023

But the problem is not religious. It’s cultural. Western colonists have wreaked havoc on third world nations and continue (in Israel’s case) to be on the wrong side of history.

AMD halo1 Nov 16, 2023

Then you being in a western nation is hypocritical. You should take an ideological stand and move out.

This episode glossed over major issues. On the Israeli side, it ignored the massive popular support for the war on Hamas (even with the large collateral civilian deaths), instead implying a correlation with the lack of support for Netanyahu. On the Hamas side, it ignored the vast shitty behavior beyond the oct 7 terrorist attack (lying about nearly everything, constant use of human shields, stealing humanitarian aid and fuel, preventing evacuation, the continued nightly rocket attacks, etc). It’s easy to shout “ceasefire” when you think it’s just an unpopular government waging a reign of terror on civilians for funsies. And like usual for Jon Oliver, lots of lies by omission. If you watched the episode without any prior knowledge, you’d come away thinking that Israel cut off all of Gaza’s water and sends Gaza diseased water. Israel only supplies 10% of Gaza’s water.

Airbnb hugset Nov 14, 2023

He was on the money about Israel’s horrible actions in the West Bank and how not all Israelis support that (but it’s hard to attribute that just to Bibi), but then he tried to tie the solution to that problem with the solution to Gaza, even though they need very different solutions (remove Hamas from Gaza, remove Israel from the West Bank).

Noom ( ಠ‿ಠ ) Nov 14, 2023

It’s easy to shout « ceasefire » when you see with your own eyes innocent civilians (largely children) being killed. At least when you’ve studied wwii genocide in school.

ARM jirachi619 Nov 14, 2023

How the hell is he saying majority support neither? Bibi got elected and so was Hamas

Netskope nskop Nov 14, 2023

Ya absolutely. We know for a fact that the elections in Gaza were free and fair.

Zscaler devakaschi Nov 14, 2023

Hamaa was elected in 2006. Also they said they're moderate and not extremists back then Fatah party was the actuak moderate but Hamas used all the techniques used by conservatives everywhere where they pretend to be good and then after winning they show their snake behaviour. The same hamas spokesperson now says we'll do it 3 4 times when asked about October 7 50% of Gaza population are kids. They're in a Nazi dictatorship where torture and kidnapping is a daily thing. No elections since 2006 and the majority people alive right now weren't even born when the last election took place. So it's not like US where Trump lost or where Hillary lost. Also Israel had 5 elections in 4yrs. Bibi won the last election because nobody could get majority and he allied with their far far far right wing. Half of Israel was protesting for like 6 7 months against Bibi's "judiciary reforms" that's make him the dictator. And the reason Hamas was able to carry out attack of oct 7 was because like a cheap wannabe dictator Bibi focused his energy on destroying his political opponents because he was convicted in a corruption case and doesn't want to go to Jail. It is always the right wingers who destroy national security despite harping about national security Also Trump was voted by US voters. So can they be blamed for whatever he did?
