I know we have a huge Amazon hub, and MS and Apple offices and that’s it in terms of huge companies paying big $$$. Not everyone works one of them and wondering what people living here makes. YOE: 7 TC: 130k CAD #vancouver #canada
How is 130K in Vancouver? I know thats on higher side, but can you live comfortably?
Lol, no
I dont think that's on the high side. That's like 30k less than new grad pay at Microsoft /Amazon
For an average SFH in Vancouver, what’s the min tc to afford it?
240K CAD
SFH is now above 2M$ - and that's probably not even the average but rather an old home in East Van. For that you probably need 400k CAD or more - unless you have huge equity.
380
Level and yoe? I was L6 and 8 yoe, 230k CAD (no longer at Amazon)
L6 SDM
Apple offered me 220k CAD for ICT 3. Currently at 210 CAD base + 45k USD startup options a year. 3 YOE
Wow that’s very great. I suppose you’re at MS? Didn’t know MS pay that good
Not at MS (Notice that I said startup options, MS is not a startup).

https://www.levels.fyi/t/software-engineer/locations/greater-vancouver is a pretty good data source.
Just got promoted to ic5, about to hit 500k CAD TC after next refreshers, 5 yoe
Holy smokes.. qualifications?
Qualifications same as anyone getting into FANG. For comp, its just luck with joining at a good stock price and getting promoted fast. Anybody who joined as an IC5 from the start would probably be making 600-700k though.
Huge $$$ and Canada TC doesn't rhyme in single sentence
What's your TC?
